World number one Badminton player Viktor Axelsen of Denmark won his second BWF World Championships title after beating Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the final held at Tokyo, Japan on 28 August 2022.
It is his third major title in a year, he won the Tokyo Olympics and followed it up with the All England title.
Akane Yamaguchi wins women’s single title
The women's singles title has been retained by Japan's reigning champion Akane Yamaguchi.
Top-seeded Yamaguchi defeated China's Olympic champion Chen Yufei in the final. This win gave Yamaguchi her second title of the year, after lifting the trophy at the All England Open in March.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games at the state-level function organised at Pal Panchayat of Luni block in Jodhpur district on 29 August 2022.
The games are being organized in more than 11,000 panchayats of the state.
About 2 lakh 25 thousand teams are participating in these games, in which about 30 lakh players are showing talent.
The state government claims that the Rural Olympics is one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Under the Rural Olympics, 6 sports-Kabaddi, Shooting Ball, Volleyball, Hockey, Kho-Kho and Tennis Ball Cricket are being played.
These games are first being organized at the Gram panchayat level after that there will be competitions at block, district and state level.

The European football body Union of European Football Association (UEFA) every year stages an annual awards ceremony at the start of a new season to recognise the best player and coach performances from the previous editions of the UEFA men’s' and women's club competitions.

Tokyo summer Olympic 2020 Javelin gold medallist Neeraj Chopra donated his gold medal winning javelin to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland on 27 August 2022.
He is the second India after Abhinav Bindra to donate his gold medal winning sports equipment to the Olympic museum.
Abhinav Bindra donated his gold medal winning rifle to the museum.
Abhinav Bindra was the first Indian to win a gold medal for India in the Olympics when he won in the men’s 10-metre air rifle event at Beijing summer Olympics in 2008.
Neeraj Chopra threw 87.58 m in his second attempt to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Chopra was the first track and field athlete ever to win a gold medal for India at the Games.

The 1st edition of ‘Khelo India Women’s Judo Tournament’ commenced at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Guwahati, Assam on 27 August 2022. The Khelo India Women’s Judo Tournament is scheduled to be held across four zones in India and then there will be a National round.

Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra created history on 26 August 2022, when he became the first Indian to win a Gold Medal at the prestigious Lausanne Diamond League 2022 held at Lausanne, Switzerland.
Achievements of Neeraj Chopra this year
Earlier Chopra had finished second in the Stockholm leg of the diamond league behind Anderson Peters with a national record throw of 89.94m.
He earlier became the second Indian after Anju Bobby George to win a medal at the World Athletic Championship. He won the silver medal at the World Athletic Championship 2022 on 23 July 2022.
Qualifies for Diamond league final
His throw of 89.08 meter earned him not only a gold medal but also ensured his qualification for the forthcoming Diamond league final in Zurich ,Switzerland next week but also for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest Hungary.

Before Chopra, discus thrower Vikas Gowda was the only Indian to have a finish in the top three in a Diamond League Meet.
