How can I change the language of the article and quizzes?

We have a "Change Language" option in Test Series and Daily Quizzes. If you want the content (test and quiz) in Hindi/English language, go to Settings -> Change Language, to change your default language from Hindi to English or Vice-Versa.

I am unable to make payment for the pass.

In case of failure of a transaction before the amount deduction, we advise the student to try making the payment again. In case of transaction failure after amount deduction either access to the purchased product will be provided within few hours or we request the student to wait for 3 to 4 working days. The money will be credited back to his/her account.

ITU's Regional Standardization Forum for Asia and Oceania held in New Delhi

The Union Ministry of Communication hosted the International Telecommunication Union’s Regional Standardization Forum (RSF) for Asia and Oceania region on 8 August 2022 in New Delhi

The Forum was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Communication Devusinh Chauhan.

Theme of the Forum 

The theme of the Forum is “Regulatory and Policy aspects of Telecommunications/ICTs”.

The Forum will be succeeded by a four-day meeting of International Telecommunication Union-T Study Group 3 Regional Group Asia and Oceania (ITU-T SG3RG-AO) from 09th August 2022 to 12th August 2022.

The Regional Standardization Forum is a platform for constructive exchange of ideas, discussing standardization topics including inter alia India’s experience in various sectors of technology like Sustainable Digital Transformation and the Role of ITU Standards, Harnessing Technologies for Digital and Financial Inclusion in Emerging Markets, evolving Data Value Chain and Digital Health.

Over 250 delegates from 20 countries will participate in the Regional Standardization Forum.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

  • The International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations for information and communication technologies – ICTs.
  • It was established on 17 May 1865 as the International Telegraph Union, making it the oldest UN agency.
  • The ITU promotes the shared global use of the radio spectrum, facilitates international cooperation in assigning satellite orbits, assists in developing and coordinating worldwide technical standards, and works to improve telecommunication infrastructure in the developing world.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar return to India after successful Cambodia Visit

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar returned to India on 5 August 2022 after a two day (3-4 August 2022) visit to Cambodia.

He was on a visit to Cambodia to attend the annual India -ASEAN foreign ministerial meeting.

 During his visit he met the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and assured India’s help in restoring the heritage site of Cambodia.

He also met the United States of America Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Sri Lankan foreign minister Ali Sabry, Australian foreign minister Penny Wong and others.

The 55th ASEAN Foreign Minister Meeting 

The 55th Association of South-East Asian Nation (ASEAN) foreign ministers meeting was held at the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh on 3rd August 2022. 

The 10 member ASEAN group did not invite Myanmar. Myanmar leaders are not being invited in the ASEAN meeting after the military deposed the elected government headed by State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

As per tradition the ASEAN countries also held a number of bilateral meetings with other countries.

India -ASEAN meeting 

As per the Look East foreign policy of the Narasimha Rao government in 90s, the government of India focussed on increasing trade and investment with East Asia with special focus on ASEAN.

Evolution of India -ASEAN relationship 

India was initially made a sectoral partner by ASEAN in 1992. 

With the increasing depth in the relationships the status was changed to a Dialogue Partner in 1996.

In 2022 the relationship was further upgraded to Summit level

And finally in 2012 it was elevated to Strategic Partnership.

ASEAN plus 3 meeting 

It refers to the meeting of the ASEAN countries with China, South Korea and Japan

ASEAN also held bilateral level meetings with the European Union and the foreign ministers of the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Association of South-East Asian Nation (ASEAN)

It is considered to be one of the most successful regional groups in the world.

It was set up in 1967 as a group of South-East Asian nations.

At present there are 10 members in the group. They are 

Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

World Cities Summit 2022 starts in Singapore

The 8th edition of the World Cities Summit 2022 started in Singapore on 31 July 2022.  The summit will be held from 31July to 3 August 2022.

The biennial World Cities Summit (WCS) is an exclusive platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainable city challenges, share integrated urban solutions and forge new partnerships. 

Who Organises World Cities Summit

 It is jointly organised by Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities and the Urban Redevelopment Authority. The first World Cities Summit was held in 2008 in Singapore 

The key highlights of the summit include the WCS Mayors Forum, the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize and the WCS Young Leaders Symposium.

Theme of the WCS 2022: Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Emerging Stronger.

Amit Shah inaugurates conference on drug trafficking, national security in Chandigarh

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah inaugurated the national conference on drug trafficking and national security in Chandigarh on 30 July 2022.

  • The conference was attended by the Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator Banwarilal Purohit, Chief minister of Punjab Bhagwant singh Mann, Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur , Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Manoj Sinha.
  • Officers of Border Security Force, National Investigation Agency, Narcotics Control Bureau and Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the respective states were also present.
  •  This is the first such national conference where the Union Home Minister, Chief Minister of various states and drug enforcement agencies were present.
  • The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, took a pledge to destroy 75,000 kg of drugs to celebrate the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. 
  • The NCB teams in four different of the country, destroyed seized narcotics in front of Amit Shah through a video link.

Drugs problem in India 

India lies in between the two major illegal opium producing and trafficking regions of Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent. This has made India both a destination and a transit route for opiates produced in these regions.

Golden Triangle: It is an illegal opium producing area consisting of Myanmar, Thailand and Laos located in Southeast Asia.

Golden Crescent:   It is an illegal opium production area spread in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

PM Modi inaugurates the First All India District Legal Services Authorities Meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first All India District Legal Services Authorities meet at New Delhi on 30 July 2022.  Union Law minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and other dignitaries were also present at the meeting.

  • The two day (30-31 July 2022) first All India District Legal Services Authorities meet is being organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
  • Addressing the meeting the Prime Minister said that ease of justice is equally important as ease of doing business and ease of living. Mr. Modi said, National Legal Service Authority and District Legal Services Authorities can play a great role in the speedy justice delivery system.
  • Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the National Legal Services Authority has launched a campaign ‘Release Under Trial Review Committee @75’ from the 16th of this month for identifying eligible prisoners and recommending the release of fit cases to the Under Trial Review Committee.

Constitutional Provision for Legal Aid 

  • Article 39 A of the constitution , provides that the state shall provide free legal aid by a suitable legislation or scheme to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disability.
  • Articles 14 provides for equality before law.
  • Article 22(1) provides that any person who is in custody has to be informed as to why he has been arrested. Further, he cannot be denied the right to consult a legal practitioner of his choice. 
  • To implement these provisions of the constitution Parliament passed Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free legal service to the poor and needy.

National Legal Service Authority (NALSA)

  • The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.
  • The National Legal Services Authority was constituted on 5th December, 1995.
  • Chief Justice of Supreme Court is ex-officio chairman of the NALSA
  • Currently Chief Justice of India is NV Ramana.

State Legal Services Authority 

In Every state there is a State Legal Services Authority which is headed by the Chief justice of the respective High Court.

District Legal Services Authority 

In Every District of the country there is a District Legal Services Authority which is headed by the District Judge of the respective district. There are a total 676 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) in the country.

Category of Persons eligible for free legal aids 

The Legal Services Authority provides free legal aid to the eligible category of persons under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. 

 The beneficiaries don't have to pay for the court fees or fees to the lawyers provided by the authority.

Some of the eligible beneficiaries are:  

  • A person belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe;
  • a victim of trafficking in human beings or begar as referred to in Article 23 of the Constitution;
  • a woman or a child;
  • a mentally ill or otherwise disabled person;
  •  person under circumstances of undeserved want such as being a victim of a mass disaster, ethnic violence, caste atrocity, flood, drought, earthquake or industrial disaster; or
  •  an industrial workman; or
  •  Poor people whose income is less than prescribed by the central government for Supreme Court and State government for High Courts and District Courts etc.

S. Jaishankar participates in the SCO foreign ministers meeting in Tashkent

The Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting at Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 29 July 2022.

He was on a two-day (28-29 July 2022) visit to Uzbekistan on the invitation of Uzbekistan's acting foreign minister Vladimir Norov.

The foreign ministers meeting discussed the preparations for the upcoming Meeting of the Council of Heads of State on 15-16 September 2022 in Samarkand. 

Uzbekistan is the current chairman of SCO and it will hold all the meetings related to SCO.

India will take over the chairmanship from Uzbekistan next year.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 

  • It is a regional organization consisting of China, Russia, India, Pakistan and the four central Asian countries of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
  • SCO has four observer states ;Iran, Mongolia, Belarus and Afghanistan
  • It has six dialogue partner states; Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.

13th Session of India-Uzbekistan Inter Governmental Commission held in New Delhi

The 13th session of the India-Uzbekistan Inter-Governmental Commission was held in New Delhi on 28 July 2022. The Indian delegation was led by the Union Minster for Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textile Shri Piyush Goyal.

The Uzbekistan side was led by Mr. Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 

The 12th session of the India-Uzbekistan Inter-Governmental Commission was held in 2020 in a virtual mode due to covid pandemic.

Goyal underlined seven emerging areas of cooperation between both the nations namely Digital Payments, Space Cooperation, Agri and Dairy, Pharma, Gems and Jewellery, MSME and Inter-regional cooperation.

Inter-Governmental Commission meeting is an important platform to deliberate on ideas, discuss issues & strengthen bilateral relations esp. in the field of trade & investment.

Bilateral trade between the two countries 

According to Piyush Goel the bilateral trade between the two countries has increased from $247 million in 2019-20 to $342 million in 2021-22.

The major items of India’s exports are pharmaceutical products, mechanical equipment, vehicle parts, services, optical instruments and equipment. 

India’s imports from Uzbekistan consist largely of fruit and vegetable products, services, fertilizers, juice products and extracts, and lubricants. .

It is a Central Asian country which was once part of the Soviet Union 

Uzbekistan declared its independence from the Soviet Union on August 31, 1991.

17th CII Exim Bank Conclave on India - Africa Growth Partnership starts in New Delhi

The 2 day (19 and 20 July 2022) 17th  CII(confederation of Indian Industries) Exim Bank Conclave on India - Africa Growth Partnership started in New Delhi on 19 July 2022.

The conclave was inaugurated by the Director -General of CII, Chandrajit Banerjee.

The conclave will focus on project exports, trade, investments, exchange of knowledge and expertise creating shared value for business and industry at large between India and Africa.

A total of 22 African countries are participating in the conclave. 

The focus countries of the conclave are Zambia, Namibia and Gambia.

The theme of the conclave is: Creating Shared Futures 

The Union Commerce and Industry minister, Piyush Goel attended the inaugural session of the conclave.  While addressing the conclave he said that India is willing to help and strengthen partnership with African countries in four fields of defence sector, solar energy, digital and physical infrastructure and start-up ecosystem.

CII- EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership 

  • The CII- EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Project Partnership was launched in the year 2005 with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
  • To emphasize the broader aspect of India Africa economic relationship, the conclave name was changed to CII- EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership in 2022.
  • The main aim of the Conclave is to encourage Indian companies to establish and grow their business and investment in Africa.

Union Home Minister Amit shah chairs 30th Northern Zonal Council meeting in Jaipur

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 30th meeting of the Northern Zonal Council in Jaipur, Rajasthan on 9 July 2022.  It is being held in Jaipur after 25 years.

The last meeting of the Northern Zonal Council was held in Chandigarh in 2019.

Who attended the meeting 

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, 

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal, 

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and 

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor G Vinai Kumar Saxena,

Chandigarh's Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit and other senior officers attended the meeting.  

Issues discussed 

Issues like maintaining adequate water level in Bhakra and Pong dam, expediting investigation in rape cases, speedy disposal of cases under POCSO Act, optimum use of DBT in social security schemes, changing parameters of road construction in rural areas under PMGSY, curbing stubble burning, security, cybercrime, drug trade, mutual border dispute between states, road, transport, industries, water, power and other issues were deliberated upon in the meeting.

What is Zonal Council 

Zonal councils were created to promote healthy inter-State and Centre-State relations with a view to solving inter-State problems and fostering balanced socio economic development of the respective zones in the country.

The country has been divided into six zones for this purpose  . Eastern Zone, Western Zone, Northern Zone, Central Zone ,Southern Zone and North -Eastern Zone .

Five Zonal councils were set up in the country under the State Reorganization act 1956 while the North Eastern Council act 1972 created North Eastern Council.

It is an Advisory body, which is headed by the Union Home Minister.

Zonal Councils in India 

Northern Zonal Council: Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are its members.

Eastern Zonal Council:   States of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, and West Bengal are its members

Western Zonal Council:  States of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are its members 

Southern Zonal Council:  States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are its members 

Central Zonal Council:  States of Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are its members.

For the North Eastern  region there is a North Eastern Council:  Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura are its members.

G-20 Foreign ministers meeting ends in Bali without issuing any declaration

The two day (7, 8 June 2022) G-20 foreign ministers meeting ended in Nusa Dua, Bali Indonesian on 8 July 2022, without issuing any final communique or a customary group photo.

The meeting failed to find a common ground on the issue of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and how to deal with its global impacts. 

  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was in attendance despite objections from Western leaders. There was no meeting between him and the American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
  • The division between the western countries highly critical of Russian invasion and Russia supported by China prevented the G-20 from tackling global problems as mentioned by the host Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi.
  • She noted that poor and developing countries now face the brunt of fuel and grain shortages resulting from the war in Ukraine and said that the G-20 has a responsibility to step up and deal with the matter to ensure the rules-based global order remains relevant.
  • The Foreign minister’s meeting was expected to prepare an agenda for the G-20 summit meeting to be held in Indonesia in October 2022.
  • India was represented by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.  He met a number of foreign dignitaries on the sideline of the G20 foreign minister meeting.
  • G-20 is a group of 19 countries and the European Union. The 19 member countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States.
  • India will be holding the G20 Presidency from 1 December 2022 and will convene the G20 Leaders’ Summit in 2023 for the first time.
