COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES OVERVIEW
The combined defence services examination is held twice a year for the recruitment of the post in Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Airforce Academy. This examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commision.
IMPORTANT DATES
LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSION AND WITHDRAWAL OF APPLICATIONS:
(i) The Online Applications can be filled up to 11th January, 2022 till 6:00 PM.
(ii) The online Applications can be withdrawn from 18.01.2022 to 24.01.2022 till 6.00 PM.

How to apply
- Step 1: Go through the official website of Union Public Services Exam at- Click Here
- Step 2: Click on the application form.
- Step 3: Click on new registration and complete the registration process.
- Step 4: You will receive a registration number and a password on your registered email id.
- Step 5: Log in with your details such as registration no and password.
- Step 6: Candidates need to fill in their personal and educational details in the application form.
- Step 7: Upload your recent photograph in required format and size along with a scanned copy of Sign.
- Step 8: Choose the examination center and proceed with the application form.
Step 9: Pay your application fee through net banking.
Step 10: Now, download your application and take print out.
COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
CANDIDATES TO ENSURE THEIR ELIGIBILITY FOR THE EXAMINATION:
The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. Mere issue of Admission Certificate to the candidate does not imply that his candidature has been finally cleared by the Commission. Verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents will be started only after the candidate has qualified for interview/Personality Test.
Educational qualification | (i) For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai — Degree of a recognised University or equivalent. (ii) For Indian Naval Academy— Degree in Engineering from a recognised University/Institution (iii) For Air Force Academy—Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering. |
Nationality | A candidate must be unmarried and must either be: (i) a Citizen of India, or (ii) a subject of Nepal, or (iii) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. |
Age Limit and Marital status | Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status : (i) For IMA—Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1999 and not later than 1st January, 2004 only are eligible. (ii) For Indian Naval Academy—Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1999 and not later than 1st January, 2004 only are eligible (iii) For Air Force Academy— 20 to 24 years as on 1st January, 2023 i.e. born not earlier than 2nd January, 1999 and not later than 1st January, 2003 (Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 yrs. i.e. born not earlier than 2nd January, 1997 and not later than 1st January, 2003 only are eligible. Note: Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply but during the training period they will neither be provided married accommodation nor can they live with family out of the premises. (iv) For Officers' Training Academy—(SSC Course for men) unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 2nd January, 1998 and not later than 1st January, 2004 only are eligible. (v) For Officers' Training Academy—(SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1998 and not later than 1st January, 2004 NOTE : Male divorcee/widower candidates cannot be treated as unmarried male for the purpose of their admission in IMA/INA/AFA/OTA, Chennai courses and accordingly they are not eligible for these courses. |
COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES EXAM PATTERN
a) For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy:—
Candidates will be rewarded with 1 mark for every right answer
0.33 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process comprises three phases which includes —
STEP 1- The candidate will have to first appear in the written examination. After clearing this stage, he will be called for the next stage.
STEP 2- The next stage to be cleared after the written examination is the SSB interview. SSB interview is divided into two phases. It is a four- five days long process in which candidates will be tested for different Officer like qualities(OLQ).
STEP 3- Candidates recommended in the SSB interview will be called for a medical examination. After the conduct of the medical examination, a collective merit list will be prepared for the successful candidates.
